THE DRESS

Many of this year’s wedding gowns were inspired by the May 2018 marriage of British Prince Harry to Meghan Markle.  You remember Markle’s dress, don’t you? A custom Givenchy gown with a boat neckline and three-quarter length sleeves?  But the dress trend for 2020 shows a marked difference from Markle’s unadorned Claire Waight Keller-designed gown. Looking through bridal magazines and ezines, you can see that designs for the upcoming year feature:

  • puffy sleeves
  • side splits
  • pants
  • There are also stunning examples of bold floral dresses popping up on some sites. How perfect would that be for a spring wedding!

Most of us have a preferred clothing style that fits us well and accommodates our day-to-day activities.  Wedding gowns are our opportunity to launch that style into glamour mode. Despite style trends, we also want to look absolutely fabulous on our wedding day – so find ‘the dress’ that is stylish, fits perfectly and looks like a million bucks!

HAIR

Wedding event planning for the bride always includes her hair. Do you have a preferred style that is different from your everyday coif?  Do you have time to grow your hair OR experiment with a couple of styles before your big day? Once you get a clearer idea of what you want your hair to look like, talk to your stylist to see if your vision is possible with your hair type.  If you’d like your hairstyle in keeping with the latest trends, Wedding Wire suggests the following:

  • a sleek, center-part style
  • texture
  • braids

And Brides magazine shows the upcoming year’s bride will feature hair accessories such as:

  • headbands
  • barretts
  • florals
  • hats rather than veils

FLOWERS

Most wedding gowns are white or ivory.  Most brides opt for styled hair on their wedding day.  It’s really the florals that offer the greatest opportunity for color and design.  Mackenzie Zufelt, the wedding coordinator for Wild North Flowers, predicts that “Colour will be huge in 2020! We are seeing a lot of sunset palettes—rich peaches, deep fuchsia, reds, and corals. Also the use of unexpected materials like dried elements such as field grasses, leaves, and even dried flowers, and unexpected palettes incorporating yellows, browns. There will be a big shift away from more traditional palettes. There will also be a move towards blooms that have been out of rotation for a while like lilies, carnations, and anthurium.”  Florals are the place to let your personal style shine!
